DAY 32 – ALICANTE

We had to set the alarm today- harsh!!! Because the sun doesn’t rise here until at least 8.30am, it changes your sleeping patterns.

Went to a disembarkation meeting this morning and were talking to some Americans who got on 1 port before us. They said the huge group of germans that got on with us at Genoa completely changed the atmosphere. Everyone other than the germans finds them very rude and pushy- they never wait in the lines, just barge through in front of others, are very loud and I notice they do not acknowledge any of the waiter/cleaning staff who serve them. (remind me not to go to Germany!).
Strangely, it is the older ones who you think would have been raised with manners and courtesy?? But the younger germans we have met in NZ are all very polite. It has put a lot of people off here.
It will be interesting on our next cruise if they aren’t in attendance what it is like, although I cant say it worries me too much, but it annoys Graeme, so he just gives it back to them.

The weather turned yuck today and not sure what happened as we were meant to be in port at 10.30am but didn’t dock until 1pm and there were no announcements. Sat with another American couple we met yesterday, for lunch and they are pretty unimpressed. I can understand though, as she is an insulin dependant diabetic and the Italian crew refused to swap them to the earlier dinner- and since there has been an empty table behind us the whole, that is pretty unfair.
All in all, I have revised my thoughts on an american cruise line sometime as at least they are very fair and wait patiently etc!

We got off the ship at Alicante and the port put on free shuttles up the road towards town, then we walked- trying not to slip on the wet tiles! To town, It was really wet as you can see by our fantastic blue poncho’s! Walked around a bit, had a beer in an Irish pub?! Then walked back to the ship as couldn’t seem to find much. Of course a lot of the Spanish shut their shops from about 1-5pm anyway.

Back for a warm shower and to pack or gear, ready for disembarkation tomorrow. We are meeting George and Loris again for a drink tonight, then need to be out of our cabin at 7am tomorrow, ready to hop off in Barcelona. Will post when we can again soon.
