Day 32 - Crete

We zonked out after Graeme poured us drink after drink to celebrate being back. At one stage I said he had had a lot of the wine that Pepy leaves in your fridge as a welcome and he tried to tell me he had only had 2 1/2 glasses (they are small wine glasses). Now looking the next day at the remains of the bottle and the fact that I am allergic to wine- therefore didnt drink any, you can judge for yourself about his 2 1/2 glasses!! Haha He tried to tell me he was dehydrated this morning (when in fact I think that may be our new code word for 'hungover'!)

Since we were waiting for the rental car to arrive at 9am, we hadnt been able to get down to the village to get food, so we had water and cereal bars- had thought ahead, The car came- think it is the spaz shot on its own haha. Its a Hyundai Matrix, only has 30,000kms on the clock but feels more like 130k! Nothing like the new BMW we had in Germany! It is an auto though which makes its easier when driving on the right.

We headed down the mountain! to Agia Pelagia and did some shopping for food essentials and had a browse in some of the other shops- could go mad here but have limited myself to a couple of things- 1 pair of tiny red croc's for Ayla- they look cute when they are that small and on a child! We are going to be tight tight tight on weight on our flight back to London- Easyjet is the only direct flight but are very strict on their 20kg baggage.

We came back and had poached eggs on toast- wonderful aftee a week of cereal! I said I would cook dinner for Graeme as it was our Father Day yesterday while we were travelling- we do it the other way round due to birthdays at the same time. I went into a deli come butchery and asked for some chicken- the big greek man brings out literally half a chicken which look more like a turkey size! 6 euros so not complaining and we will have pasta, tomato based sauce and avocado. Things are more basic here and fresh.

We went down and lay by the pool this afternoon- so nice to have a pool after 5 days in the 30C heat and no pool! Lay in the sun, swan, lay in the sun, swan and layered on the sunscreen although from memory the sun is nowhere as biting as at home.
Heard heaps of bells in the late afternoon and a big herd of goats came past on the road- Graeme remembers they did that each night when we came last time too. In Santorini the bells meant the donkeys were coming!Look carefully in the bushes and you can see them.

We have sat and talked a lazy evening away, sipping ouzo again- had to buy more and this time I read the label- do you know it is 40% alcohol? No wonder we have been 'dehydrated'!
