Day 28 – Still on Santorini Greece

Havent got too much to report today. We sleep in till about 8am (would not be able to at home but with all the time zones you cross and relaxing this is what you fall into doing naturally…) get up, stare out at the ocean, watch the cruise ships, eat breakfast on the patio then go out and wander the little lanes. There were 5 cruise ships in port today and an awful lot of Americans,Italians and British. The ships disembark them, they run around talking loudly, desperate to spend money then leave- and we are still sitting on the patio in the sun!
Spaz shot of the day- this is inside our villa!

We have our bearings now and it doesn’t feel like a rabbit warren anymore and I only got lost once today. Went to buy Sam something in the little boutique right next door and returned about an hour later! You just start wandering in once place and end up in another.

Next years do-up

It is super hot today but you don’t get burnt like at home, even I had a tan line after 1 day- Danni you would look like you are from the med by now the way you tan! We do things all wrong and go out walking in the hot parts of the day, but when you sweat, the breeze just cools it on your skin and we both like dry heat, so wandered down to the other end of Oia where are the swanky hotels are. They have pools (I look at them and weep) but this side of Oia isn’t as pretty. Where we are in the caldera with 1 min walk to the sunset side is where everyone comes at night to watch the sunsets. There are many, many Chinese here surprisingly- a lot get married in the little Greek chapels.

Did some shopping then lay in the sun and read – sigh….. I was talking to a Polish girl who works in the nearby silk dress shop (my favourite shop!) and she came here with her fiancé- he is lawyer and she is an accountant, but with neither of them enjoying their careers they came to Santorini and he works as a cook in a hotel and she in the dress shop- only 1 day off a month but don’t start till 3pm (shops here are open till midnight). She said they love it and the pace of life while they work out where to next. Shows how a place can leave lasting memories as she last came when she was 17 and always wanted to come back.

We read books for some hours then tidied up and went to a lovely restaurant (they are all outdoors) which looks out over the old fort and the ocean and had a great dinner looking out over the sunset. Just as well we have people and things to go home to or we might never leave!
If you charged for taking photos in this spot, you would be a millionaire- not sure why!

Funny for the day- got into bed and suddenly realised we have lost track of the days and thought we were checking out Saturday..... did some checks- its Sunday! Nearly stuffed up:-)

As regards coming home because of the family here - no problem, you stay there, we'll sell up the properties and come over to you! Danni can get a job as a beautiful barmaid or waitress there, Sam can teach the tourists off the ships how to draw and paint in 15 minutes for an exorbitant fee, Royden can run his own bar, Ayla can run wild, Graeme can clean up after the donkeys in the alleyways, you (Dins) can run afternoon clinics, while Dad & I sit talking with the other oldies drinking coffee during the day, have a siesta then sit drinking ouzo (wine for me) all night! Yeah!

I will come over too and run a craft shop for the tourists.... will have to customise my goods to be a bit mediterranean themed... but all doable! Sam can teach my kids and Aaron can get the resource consents for the power station. What sort of passport do you need to live there? I have a British would that do it?
