Day 30 Last night on Santorini

We got up and caught the local bus to Thira (Fira) today. Its quick and easy at €1.60 one way each and the buses are nice flash ones with air con. A lot of people, especially the Chinese apparently, hire the smart cars or 4 wheel motorbikes to burn around Santorini on. But the corners up here are pretty sharp and narrow with sheer drops and with many not wearing helmets it’s a bit dodgy!

Walked around Thira- the hawkers outside the shops are a bit of a pain, but not as bad as in Nadi, Fiji. Had a nice wander round, bought a couple of things and had to give a guy begging (well he was praying) in the street a bit of moolah. Graeme tells me not to but he had a really wizened leg and foot and the first time we walked past and didnt give him anything he wasnt rude (just kept praying!) Then caught the bus back which was chocker with people going to Oia.

Decided to have some crepes for lunch but the place we went to got Graemes one wrong and mine was so full of chocolate it was a bit yuck- one crepe each and a coke for €22?! It had a great view admittedly though!

Came back and got onto the internet- have had heaps of trouble connecting the last couple of days as it drops off if you can connect- but still, is better than no internet at all.
Talked to the girls via facebook- 1 teenager who couldnt sleep on at 1am- Dannielle Melissa!@#$#! But had a good chat- technology is great isn’t it?

Went out for a walk around- a poor lady fell pretty much right in front of me coming down the steps- I managed to catch her on one side but only slowed her fall. She was pretty shaken and was worried as her euros were going everywhere but Graeme picked htem up for her and she seemed ok, but shaken.
Had a nice meal- everyone eats outdoors which in this climate is really nice- like our kiwi bbq’s in summer. Went for walk along the marble pathway- you need to be careful cos its quite slippery, then we watched the sunset with hundreds of others. Cracks me up that people clap each night as it goes down!

I'd be more inclined to clap to see the sun rises every morning - means I'm still alive to see another day. If still alive at the going down of the sun, could well clap again, I s'pose ....

lol. Ihave to say that the sunsets here arent very spectacular although they are famous for it. The sunsrises I see before work each day up at our place are far more clap worthy!

That is so funny. I had never heard of that before. Perhaps Toni they are clapping the fact they survived the day!

You got it, Kath - that would be my motivation too - I survived - where's that ouzo!
