Day 37 – 1st June. Firenze->Assisi

Day 37 – 1st June. Firenze->Assisi

Had an easy day today as we weren’t on the optional tour in the morning to San Giamangio, so we could take it easier, although we still had to have our suitcases outside our doors by 7.15am.

Did emails and internet for abit as we had it in our room for 10 euros which wasn’t bad. Had breakfast then wandered down the road looking in the shops. Saw some nice leather boots but they didn’t have my size. Just as well probably!

Onto the bus and drove for a few hours to the bottom of Assisi where Michael took us to a church that had the original tiny stone church was totally encompassed inside the bigger churches walls. It was tiny in comparison and had great paintings on its inner walls. This is where St Francesco spent his life and is apparently buried under the floor- that’s what you get for building it !

Then we wound up the hills into Assisi where we are staying in an old Nuns convent called Hotel Giotto. I had heard lots about it on the Trafalgar forum as the rooms are the size of cells ! After last nights carry on with our room, the TD made sure we have a decent sized room since there are 3 of us.

Then Graeme went out on a walking tour of the large church here, while Danni and I went for a walk down the small lanes. It had been cloudy and wet, but then the thunder really started and the skies opened. We all had the umbrellas the street hustlers had sold us at the Colliseum, so we were right but it continued to pour, so we came back and relaxed until Gray came back.

Dinner at 7.30pm in the hotel tonight then to bed as we have an early start I think- we are off to Pompeii tomorrow amongst other things. Really enjoying this tour.
