Days 5 & 6, 19th- 20th Aug

Day 5

Had a great sleep last night and woke at 6 am and we just lay in bed till we heard the engine start at 7am. We had ships all around us last night as we are all docked side to side and back to back – looked quite the picture.

We all had breakfast and then sailed to the island of Mjet where we walked along to the National Park over ancient cobbled steps to the jetty where we had a boat ride over to the ruins of a Monastery. The water is aqua blue – so beautiful.

We had an hour there and then back onto the boat and wandered back for a swim in the beautiful water. The group walked back the 1 1/2 kilometres – it was hot but lovely under the trees as we walked.

Got back to the ship and had a couple of nice icy cold beers for $4. So cheap compared to what it usually is on cruise ships. We had a lovely lunch of duck which I haven’t tried a lot of before other than in France, but really enjoyed his glazed carrots and honey. We’ve had a couple of birthdays the last two days so also offered cake 😊.

Everyone was feeling really tired after the exertion this morning so relaxed before a swim stop in the beautiful coloured water and then wine tasting before a buffet a dinner and arriving in Dubrovnik for a cruise past tour the old city. We will be getting off tomorrow after the morning excursion, so that will give us our bearings for the next 3 days we are staying there. We did have a Montenegro day tour booked but when I read the reviews, they were terrible of the company running it, so I have cancelled it and we have decided to talk to the local hotel about tours if we still want one.

They had a wine tasting before dinner tonight which Graeme went along to – bummer being allergic to wine ☹️  But I was able to tidy up our things for departure tomorrow.

We had a lovely buffet dinner tonight  and I discovered they make Mojitos here! And only $11 – I was in and up for the challenge! Had great conversations tonight with people we have met here, they are really lovely and we all chatted as we cruised into the port of Dubrovnik – a beautiful sunset tonight and a lovely way to finish our tour.

Day 6

It’s pick up day today and we had our cases out at 9 am ready for departure, then we were taken in the bus to the old town of  Dubrovnik. We all went up the cable car to the top of the mountain overlooking the old city wall and Port – it is a sight to see! It was so hot up there we looked around then sat under some big umbrellas and had piña colada‘s and beers at 10:30 am – what a sin! But they went down so well in the heat ha ha.

Back down the mountain in the cable car and onto a walking tour of the old city and port. It was extremely hot and sticky by then and people were flagging a bit – there was so many tourists there and it was amazing to see the architecture and hear the history
Gray was feeling pretty hot afterwards so we all caught the bus back towards our cruise ship and six of us stopped at a restaurant and had fantastic lite pizza and ice cold beers – a lovely way to finish our cruise.

When we got back and finished up, our transfers were waiting – brand-new Mercedes in private cars very oh- Lala! Onto our hotels, ours looks good from the outside but it was extremely hot in the room and the air conditioning wasn’t working properly. Ended up shifting to another room a few hours later which wasn’t much better but then we jumped in the pool and cooled down.

Walked 10 minutes up the road to the area of Lapad which was buzzing with people, families and young teens wandering around looking beautiful! It felt like a really safe area and was lovely to wander around the pedestrian Street. We had fantastic Mexican at a restaurant then wandered back to the hotel.

Just typed a whole lot of chit chat only to lose it when I touched something I shouldn’t. Grrrrr!

Needless to say, it was about taking dogs walking, chatting to alpacas and donkeys on the way. Also about playing Skipbo games with Danni and she still beating us despite our hours of practice at home before we came over. She obviously has a stacked deck of cards .....!

Yes so frustrating when you do that – I always try and remember to copy at all just in case it happens!
