We really enjoyed the big room we had in Eastbourne, with all the windows that you could open up completely to look out at the sea. Had a ‘you have got to be kidding’ moment though- woke at 3am again when someone slammed a door!@#!!
We got up early and had breakfast in the grand old dining room, wish I had taken my camera as it was a beautiful setting with large sash windows overlooking the sea and white linen tablecloths- very posh English haha!
We went out for a walk up to the pier early, it was rather brisk but we have sun today- yay! Lovely gardens and the pier has 2 buildings at the start and end of the pier- it is a work of art and much prettier and more elegant than the Brighton pier we saw later in the day. Surprisingly, Brighton is famous for its pier and you don’t hear about Eastbournes which is far more ornate.
One of the perfect looking tulips on the boardwalk (note the new camera)!
Eastbourne Pier
Left and drove to Beachy Head which has towering white cliffs and a lighthouse out in the sea- the scenery is dramatic and vast. Towering Cliffs
Spaz shot for the day just for Sammy!
Then on to Brighton, which is much bigger but doesn’t have any of the charm of Eastbourne- it has a manic city feel. We found a carpark after a bit then went walking.
Lots of shops and interesting things to see. After a couple of hours walking and a steak and stilton pastie (yum yum yum) we were off again.
Drove on to Arundel and after trying 4 places found a great huge room at the Norfolk Arms, an old coaching inn built in 1785 for the sum of ₤7223 which was a massive amount back then! The floor is all up and down like our first villa and it has the biggest bathroom I’ve visited, complete with white lace curtains in front of the bath! Not bad for ₤100.
This is the first time we have travelled without booking a lot in advance, but its led to really interesting places. One thing we have noticed is some towns which look great on tv, weren’t much chop when you got there, so just driving along has been a good way to discover things.
We went up to Arundel castle which is just behind us and toured through all its magnificence- it is owned by the Duke & Duchess of Norfolk. Pretty impressive old fort and still all in working order, but man some people have lived in such wealth!
One of the spooky crypts in the chapel in the grounds of the castle
Went back over the road to an old pub- the Red Lion and had a great meal and a beer before wandering back to our hotel to rest our sore feet!

From what I've read, Eastbourne was the upper crust place where all the rich and beautiful people went for their seaside holidays in times gone by.
Your leap by the edge of the towering white cliffs was enough to give your mother watery knees!
You are visiting some great places. Loved your grand room with the elegant bath!
Phoar Im not one for a bath but I reckon I would have given that one a crack! Very cool spaz shot too by the way! Claire Bear! (cool photos, you must be loving it! Gary said he would really like to spend a chunk of time travelling around the UK, so much to see & soo much English stodge to eat!)
Nice spaz photo it really brings out your personality...
and I see that someone it getting artistic with a new camera :)
oh yes Darlings- it takes great artistic talent and gymnastic ability to capture such photography..... and not fall off that massive cliff!
Artistice and gymnastic skills duly noted - however I didn't make the effort of giving birth to you to have you jump off a cliff!!
