Day 6 - 1st May, May day
Ooohhhh our sore tootsies!
The pedometer says we walked 14000 steps today, we will have great calf muscles by the end of it!
Today we ventured onto the tube early to go to the Tower of London & OMG ! we thought it was busy yesterday but today we learned what it is like to be human sardines on the train! I even had a woman breathing in my ear as we were standing so close- there is no personal space!! You see the locals "zone out"as soon as they get on to probably cope with the rise in blood pressure and body heat! Was interesting to be sure but has decided us not to try the tube on 2 lines with our suitcases early tomorrow morning to get to Salisbury as I think the Brits would shoot us dead if we tried. We will get a cab instead.
Having said about the extreme crush in the trains, the English are so polite, they dont push (mostly) and are so patient. This goes for business people through to students. Could teach us a thing or 2 about patience - just in our cars at home rather than public transport.
The Tower of London was definitely the highlight for us since arriving, we had a Yeoman tour around so got lots of the bloody history! I tried to make a guardsman laugh while he was on duty, but he just closed his eyes straight away and ignored me-clever boy!
After the tower we went and sat in the sun and ate an icecream, the sky was so blue and it was lovely and warm (sorry guys). Payback was that those 3 single icecreams cost us $21 ~!~Shocking prices here, it is the only drawback for us Kiwi's.
We then went to the Natural History Museum as Danni was very keen to see some dinosaurs. The museums here are incredible, more than we could dream of at home. The architecture of its buildings were for us adults, also a highlight. Walked around with our mouths open I think for a couple of hours, them walked very slowly with our sore feet, back to the tube and Earls Court.
Came back to the hotel and went for dinner in their restaurant, which included lovely english peas with the fish n chips! (not mushy - yay). Enjoyed our last meal in London, and the funny of the night was Danni and I could hear a rat squeaking in what seemed to be the wall behind our chairs. It was freaking us out a wee bit as it went on throughout our meal. Was about to tell the staff member when I suddenly realised that the squeaking was actually coming from the back of my chair when I moved !!! Duh, would have been embarrassed if I had spoken up!
We are off early tomorrow up to meet friends from Fiji in Salisbury to see Stonehenge hopefully. London has been great to visit but onwards..........

The English crowds are amazing BUT wait to you get to Rome!!!I can remember our feet and oh how good it was to get those shoes off and feet up.I had a lot of problems with ankles swelling partly heat and partly being on my feet all the time .Did get better as time marched on.The cost of everything is expensive however in comparison the earning power in London is comparitable.Euros not as bad .Look forward to your next instalments.
HI Guys,
Danni Quinlan is so jealous of your visit to see the dinosaurs.
I ahve tried posting twice now.... both fabulous messages but for somte reason they never make it on. So hheres hoping this one does.
Great to hear the goings on. CAn't wait to see and hear about Stonehenge.
Gee the price of ice cream is a weight wathcer dream... can't justify spending that every five minutes!! hehehehe
Lit the fire last night (3rd time) so jealous you are so hot!!!
Cath
Hello to TITT(s)- Danni has finally seen the real thing that has always fascinated her from the time she was quite tiny - dinosaurs!! What a thrill eh kid!
Hope Stonehenge is still standing after your visit - haven't heard any item on the news regarding fallen monoliths there, but you never know, especially when Graeme is around and doing one of his action shots for the camera!
Hope the jet lag has gone... MDTTNP
Looking forward to more updates and please keep up the good work stay safe John Diane and Hannah.
Hey Wees, Overhang and Danni
Awesome to read of your travels so far. Great pics too - and I can believe you littered outside the queens house you cheap tart!! No decorom what so ever!! (That's why we get on so well!!) Danni looks just a buzz with all the excitement - what an amazing experience Danni - you are so very lucky but so deserving cos you are such a great kid. All is well here. Washing near dragging on the ground from all the rain - Gaz happy tho cos it's making the grass grow. Kate just awesome. Love to you all. D, G & K xxxxxxxx PS I double dear you to drop one in the tube next time it's packed and see if it clears a space around you - then you won't have to put up with strangers breathing in your ear!!!
Hi Sharon- yes I remember what you said about swelling feet so I came prepared with frusemide tabs to use if & when they do - only problem is then you have to find a loo more often!!
We are getting to the stage with the prices that "if thats the price things are, we just pay it"!! but I will be glad that europe will only be double the NZ dollar for sure!
Cath- funny I like the weight watchers analogy!!
Even I thought the dinosaurs were great- there was a gi-normous triceratops with the 3 horns and a mammoths skull which blew me away- will show you the pictures when we get back or send me your email address again and I can easily send them via hotmail. When you type you comments in here, just before you try to publish them, just control C and highlight all you have typed, so that if you lose it, you can just control V into a new one and its all saved! Frustrating I know- I had just typed my blog for the day and added the pics tonight and in my tiredness closed the page before publishing - lost the whole lot!"£"!!
Mum & Dad, I caused no clamity at Stonehenge!
It was blowing a gale so we were the lightweights and Graeme and Danni hadnt had baked beans that day so we were safe LOL!
Masons - have you sold your house yet??? we are having a ball and Danni is so easy to travel with- does everything she is told!
Du Du,
Now that would have been an idea in the tube - the other two had baked beans everyday for brekky so wouldnt have been a problem!! Problem was on that one day it was so so squashed, I was quietly panting away like a woman in labour to stay still and not try to get off in a claustrophobic panic!!
So sad that your washing is all wet and heavy and that my husband is not there to make you any power to dry it all- lazy bum traipsing around Britain!"!!?!
Glad Kate is behaving and you arent having to put her in the cupboard!! Big cuddles to you all
